Tamagotchi Uni or Connection? Choose Uni if your ideal tiny companion has a colorful room, outfits to change and a daytime sitter. Choose the current Connection revival if you want retro-style care, collectible items and local play with another compatible Connection. Neither is the right choice simply because its shell looks cuter.
This comparison is for someone choosing between these two models. For Original, Nano and Paradise as well, start with our five-model Tamagotchi buying guide.
How we compared them: This is a researched buying guide based on Bandai’s published features, FAQs and manuals, checked October 1, 2026. We have not carried out a timed care test or measured battery life. Recommendations below are our interpretation of the documented features.
The differences that matter before you buy
| Your priority | Tamagotchi Uni | Tamagotchi Connection revival |
|---|---|---|
| Style of play | Character personalities, outfits, decorating and crafting. | Classic care, games, Gotchi Points and item collecting. |
| Display and controls | Color display; button controls, not a touchscreen. | Retro monochrome pixel display and buttons. |
| Daytime care help | A built-in sitter, with time and care restrictions. | Plan regular care around your day; do not assume it has Uni’s sitter. |
| Playing with a friend | Another Uni for direct connection. | Another compatible current Connection for infrared play. |
| Internet expectations | Some features use Wi-Fi; local connection works without it. | Local connection play; no revived Tama Town service. |
The feature comparison draws on Bandai’s Uni gameplay overview, Uni FAQ, Connection gameplay overview and Connection FAQ.
Which fits a workday or school day?
Uni has the clearer documented option for daytime cover. Its official manual lists the sitter from 7:00 a.m. to 5:59 p.m. Collect your character before 6:00 p.m. The sitter cannot be used during the baby stage, when hunger is at zero, or when the character needs medical treatment.
That makes Uni worth considering if those hours match your routine, but it is not unlimited care cover. Before starting a new character, choose a time when you can pay attention. If you regularly get home after the sitter window, plan for that rather than assuming the device will wait.
Connection suits someone who actively wants the little check-ins to be part of the hobby. Bandai describes feeding, games, cleaning, discipline and illness care. We would not promise that either model needs only a fixed number of minutes a day: age, care choices and how much you play change the routine.
Do you want decorating or a retro collection?
Uni is our pick for the decorating enthusiast. Bandai’s gameplay guide highlights furniture, accessories, DIY crafting and Tama Walks. If your favorite part would be choosing a room and styling one character, that is a more useful reason to buy it than the number of features on the box.
Connection is our pick for the nostalgic collector. Its official overview lists more than 50 characters and more than 150 items. Playing games and spending Gotchi Points gives the classic care loop something to build toward. Choose it because that pixel-art rhythm appeals to you, not because you expect a smaller version of Uni’s colorful world.
Buying two? Match the models before the colors
Uni and Connection cannot connect to each other. Bandai also says the current Connection cannot connect to the old devices sold in the 2000s. A second-hand listing that says only “Connection” therefore deserves a closer look.
For a paired gift, check the exact model and generation on both listings before choosing shells. A single device still offers solo play; the extra purchase is for shared activities. If a friend already owns one, matching their compatible model is usually a more practical decision than picking the one with the longest feature list.
What should a Uni buyer know in 2026?
Bandai’s Uni pages list a security-support end date of July 13, 2026 and warn that Wi-Fi services may be suspended. A security-support date is not, by itself, proof that all online services have shut down. Equally, it is not a promise that future events and downloads will continue indefinitely.
Our buying rule: decide whether you still want Uni for its core care and customization if a particular online feature stops being available. If the answer is no, check Bandai’s current announcements before purchasing. The official FAQ confirms that local connection can work without Wi-Fi and that only some Tamaverse functions require it.
A sensible price comparison
Compare the total cost of the exact editions, not just the headline price. Check whether you are buying one device or a pair, whether a listing is new or used, what power accessories are included, and whether any advertised extras are actually part of the package. Uni is rechargeable; for Connection, check the edition’s battery instructions.
We have not listed a fixed price because offers and sellers change. Check the current offer and the exact model before ordering:
Our verdict
Choose Uni for styling and a documented daytime sitter; choose Connection for retro care and compatible local play. If neither sounds like your routine, compare the other models in our complete Tamagotchi guide before buying. The right choice is the one whose everyday activities you actually want to repeat.
